I laughed my head off when I read about an HIV/AIDS Activist, Dr. Stephen Watiti advising women not to have sex with men who are not their husbands as a way of preventing HIV/AIDS.
It’s not that I don’t respect Dr. Watiti’s advice; I just wish he knew that the leading causes of HIV/AIDS infections today are the men who in turn are the husbands we trust.
In the past, marriage may have been a safe haven from HIV/AIDS but today, the world has changed. Immorality and infidelity rule the day; cross generational sex being an accompaniment.
Today, when a woman gets married, it’s as if she has entered a trap where she is not safe from acquiring HIV/AIDS. It is in marriage where we assume that our partners are being faithful to us and yet they are not.
Again, it is the marriage institution where the use of condoms is forbidden. Otherwise, how else will couple procreate if they are using condoms?
Other than that, in marriage, it is not advisable for a woman to deny her husband sex or even abstain from it for any other reason other than sickness. So, even when she is raped, that is not counted as a crime.
So, how do you expect a married woman to escape from HIV with such conditions especially if her husband is sleeping around?
Dr. Watiti, I suggest you desist from advising women how having sex with their husbands is the only way they can be saved from not getting infected with HIV/AIDS. Fidelity can only work as a preventive measure for HIV if it’s two way.
