The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) was last week awarded Best Private University in Uganda during the Visionaries of Uganda Awards ceremony held at the Kampala Serena Hotel.

The IUIU received the award under the Private Businesses category in promoting quality education in Uganda.

The awards were launched by President Yoweri Museveni in 2013 with the aim of recognising organisations and individuals in contributing towards the realisation of Uganda Vision 2040.

The ceremony was graced by the Vice President, Edward Ssekandi.

Ssekandi said that recognising and rewarding excellence encourages quality products, service and positive competition.

“This ceremony comes at an opportune moment when local producers and service providers need to benchmark what they put on the market vis-a-vis global players,” said Ssekandi.

It is conducted annually and organised by the Visionaries Advisory Board in conjunction with the National Planning Authority (NPA).

This year, 45 awards were given to Nongovernmental Organizations (NGOs), private businesses and government agencies.
