The engel of death is not showing any signs of let up after it claimed yet more lives through accidents on Wednesday December 28, 2022.
The latest road accident happened at Kaganda along the Masaka-Mbarara road, in Lwengo district.
Earlier reports by Uganda Red Cross’s Spokesperson Irene Nakasita, whose colleagues helped to rescue some of the injured, had put the number of fetalities at four.
Police later clarified that nine people had perished in the grisly accident, and another 11 had been injured.
The accident involved a trailer, a salon car (Mark II) and a school van-turned-into a taxi.
The accident came just hours after Police had given another depressing report showing that 200 road accidents had taken place across the country between December 23 and 26,2022.
Police Traffic spokesperson Faridah Nampiima said that 53 people had perished in the three days on the roads.
The hectic Christmas period is usually characterised with numerous accidents as drivers rush to ferry people going to villages to celebrate with their families.
The latest tragedy means that the end of 2022 is unlikely to be any better than previous years.
