The National Drug Authority (NDA) has launched an online awareness and educational drive to share with the public insights into why and how they do drug regulation to protect and promote public health.

During the campaign, ‘ #NDAReports’, NDA will be sharing weekly discussion with senior technical persons from different departments on what, why and how they do what they do and what would be the risk if they don’t do what they do.

Abiaz Rwamwiri, NDA’s PR Manager, talking during a virtual launch, said this is part of NDA’s commitment to openness and accountability to the public.

“The work we do at NDA of ensuring that the public has access to quality and safe drugs is of interest to all Ugandans and therefore the public deserves to know why and how we do it,” he said.

Rwamwiri added: “We want the public to know why we undertake some of the steps, we are open to criticism and learning. We want to bring the information gap as we open our doors to the public.”

The discussions will be shared on NDA YouTube channel and their Twitter and Facebook pages where the public can watch and comment, share questions and concerns.

NDA is mandated by National Drug Policy and Authority Act Cap 206 to ensure that there is availability, at all times, of essential, efficacious and cost-effective drugs to the entire population of Uganda as a means of providing satisfactory healthcare and safeguarding the appropriate use of drugs.

It undertakes this critical mandate through effective regulation of importation, production, exportation of drugs and healthcare products.
