In the Professional Category, UPDF shall recruit Ugandanswho are aged between 18 and 30 years and in the Regular Category they will consider Ugandans who are aged between 18 and 25 years.

According to Brigadier Karemire, in the professional Category, the Candidate have to be a Degree or Diploma holder in Medicine, Engineering, Chemistry, Education and any other vocational qualifications. Well as in the Regular category, the Candidates are required to have a minimum of Ordinary level Certificate (senior four) or Advanced level Certificate (Senior six).

This was revealed by the UPDF spokesperson Brigadier Richard Karemire while addressing journalists about the recruitment exercise at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs/UPDF (MoDVA/UPDF) Headquarters in Kampala on Saturday this week.

“Due to increased technology we are looking at bringing in the force people with requisite skills especially in science so that we are able to meet the current demand of the time” Brig. Karemire said adding that,

“Regular recruits should also possess a minimum education of senior four or senior six with bias in science subjects such as physics, Chemistry and mathematics” he added

According to Brigadier Karemire, the exercise aims at attracting a composed and patriotic Ugandans who are ready to serve in regular, professional and specialized units.

“It is an opportunity for UPDF to fill gaps created by retirements and also tap skills of personnel with competences in science subjects required in a modern army” he said

He emphasised that the exercise shall take place in all districts where the UPDF has already set up teams to ensure that the exercise achieves its objectives within the time given.

He urged the districts to meet their quotas allocated as per the results of the population census which will be communicated by the team leaders.

He added that the army shall make sure that all districts which had large number of the census have higher chances of having a larger number of recruits.

Brigadier Karemire used this platform to warn anyone who will use forged documents during the exercise. “If caught, the culprit shall be arrested, prosecuted then punished”

This recruitment has been made to close the gap that was brought as a result of retirements, cases of comrades that have got injured and those that have died
