There wast the same number of female graduands as the male at the recently concluded 27th graduation ceremony of the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) held at the main campus in Mbale.

The male students had a numerical advantage of just one studet at 1,131 graduands compared to the 1,130 female.

IUIU’s Rector Dr. Ahmed Kaweesa Ssengendo hailed the development as a mark of progress in achieving the government’s goal of achieving affirmative action and lifting the status of women in the country.

“This year we have graduated 5o percent male and 50 percent female and this clearly shows how IUIU is gender sensitive,” he said

IUIU’s Academic Registrar, Dr. Halima Wakabi Akbar earlier on told The Sunrise that the creation of the female campus at Kabojja was part of the reasons behind the success.

“The increased number of female graduands is attributed to the existence and contribution of female’s campus, and this is good news for IUIU because these female graduands shall make an impact in the society where women will take up leadership roles and support development,” she said.
