Two new Ebola cases have been confirmed in Kasese district today.

Yesterday Ebola struck the same district after a five year old boy who had travelled with his mother from DRC to Uganda tested positive and died.

In a press release dated 12th June 2019, Dr. Charles Olaro the Director General Health Services confirmed that the young man died of cholera and there are other two new cases.

“There are two new confirmed cases of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) IN Kasese District. The confirmed cases include; the 50 year old grandmother and a 3 year old brother to the deceased,” reads part of the release.

According to the release, the blood samples of the two new cases were drawn and sent for testing at the Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) and both samples tested positive to Ebola

The government has therefore appealed to the communities near the DRC-Uganda border to suspend mass gatherings, market days and other social interactions in worship, burials and weddings in order to prevent the spread of Ebola.

“Always wash your hands, suspend social norms like shaking hands, hugging and touching a patient suspected to have Ebola,” the statement reads.

The Ministry of Health has also asked the general public to cooperate with the immigration, Health and Security officials to ensure effective screening at all entry points in order to prevent Ebola spread in the country.
