John Deere’s technologies an American company is set to develop Uganda’s agriculture through the one acre foundation based in eastern Uganda mainly in districts of Jinja and Kamuli districts
One acre foundation offers over 3600 farmers with financing and training, hybrid maize seed and fertilizer as well as add-on products such as solar lights and harvest drying sheets with an objective of making sure farmers gain in farm income.
The American company is set to offer 5million US dollar grant to one acre foundation for a period of 5years and affirmed its commitment to further supporting agriculture on the African continent and Uganda in particular
John Brantley the Director of sales and marketing at john Deere’s region 1 while addressing the media at Speke resort munyonyo said as John Deere they recognize the critical importance of ICT in supporting food security in Africa.
He also added “Deere has a significant investment in our technology platforms and we want to show case our vision for enabling smallholder farmers and improving the food nutrition value chain the continent of Africa” we also have Hello Tractor project going on
“Hello tractor” initiative is an internet of things (IoT) enabled digital solutions that bridge the gap between manual and mechanized farming.
John Deere is the brand name of Deere and company an American corporation ranked as 394th in the global ranking the company that manufactures agricultural, construction and forestry machinery among others and also offers financial services and other related activities
