Makerere University has announced an impending strike stemming from governments failure to address their concerns regarding their allowances of 29.4 billion.
Through Makerere University Academic Staff Association (MUASA) General Assembly, the lecturers announced that their industrial action will be effective from 9th January but deferred this to 19th January to pave way for the upcoming Graduation
The chairperson MUASA Deus Kamunyu Muhwezi said they are facing a number of challenges as staff and among these challenges he announced the 29billion which the government said it released, and the unfair suspension of their staff Magara Bernard the chairperson of MUASA and his General Secretary
Kamunyu said that government promised to give them Ugshs 29b which has not reached them yet the Finance ministry announced its release.
On suspensions, Kamunyu said that Magara was suspended unfairly thus the industrial action. He said if they just keep quiet the university management will continue to use the same erroneous vices to suspend leaders he therefore called for the immediate lifting of this suspension.
MUASA also raised concern over some two members of the council that were dubiously elected. The members in question are Bruce Bulaba and honorable Tayebwa Thomas who are members of the public, the lecturers cited right procedures were not followed in their appointment.
