In its campaign to reach out to the local people and communities in need from different parts of the country, NSSF has so far donated medical equipment worth Ushs370m to a number of health facilities in Uganda.
Managers and staff of the country’s premier provident fund were at different locations in Kampala to donate health equipment as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CRS) drive.
The drive has taken the team to different places including Kawaala health centre, Masaka, Uganda Heart Institute among others. At Kawaala, NSSF donated beds and other equipment worth Ushs74.8m.
NSSF donated some Ushs76.6m towards the renovation of Soroti Regional Referral Hospital’s maternity ward. The fund further donated Ushs66.7m to Hope for Humans, in support of communities with nodding syndrome.
Ushs53.2m was donated to Masaka regional referral hospital towards the purchase of an incubator, oxygen concentrator and electric suction machine. Other beneficiaries of NSSF’s CSR intervention Uganda Heart Institute at Mulago (Ushs80.2m) towards the acquisition a digital Microscope and an anti- clotting time machine.
While at Kawaala, NSSF’s MD Richard Byarugaba handed over hospital beds to a team from the ministry of health and KCCA campaign to support the health centre’s maternity and post-natal unit.
The donation received plaudits from the assistant health minister Sarah Opendi who remarked that: “This facility has been in a poor state but it now looks good and this will greatly help ladies that seek medical attention here,” said Opendi.
Stevens Mwanje, NSSF’s Head of Sales and Operations, said NSSF made a deliberate decision to support the health sector following numerous reports revealing that the sector, especially the regional referral hospitals, face enormous deficits.
“The effect of this inadequacy is lack of efficiency in health service delivery and quality of care, a common scenario in all the regional referral hospitals,” said Mwanje.
