All roads lead to the Uganda Museum in Kamwokya this weekend for the first ever Uganda International Cultural Fair. The fair will showcase cultures Uganda has, as well as other foreign cultures.
The Uganda International Cultural Fair will take place at the green lawn on which the cultural village was constructed at the Uganda Museum ahead of Chogm2007. The event has been organized by Perfect Events, in association with the Uganda Tourism Board, ministry of Tourism and ministry of Culture.
Over 50 cultures will display their food, fashion, music, dance, language, among other things this weekend. It is a time to brag about which culture has x-factor.
The minister of state for Tourism Godfrey Kiwanda says the time has come for all Ugandans to be proud of who they are, but, have a chance to learn a lot about their culture and other people’s culture.
“He who has no culture, has no identity,” he said, talking about the fair running under the theme, #Iamafriendofculture We all feel a strong affinity for who we are, and the cultural fair is something to give us more information about who we are, in a relaxed and fun environment.
Even those who deny who they are, you’ll be surprised how rich your culture has in stock. And if we deny who we are, then, we have no business talking about Uganda.
The ministries of Tourism and Culture came together to support the cultural fair because culture brings out who the people truly are. “Tourism is beyond animals. We need to know about each other’s cultures,” Kiwanda said.
The fair starts on Friday July 29th to Sunday July 31. It’s going to celebrate Ugandan cultures and turn their diversity into strength.
Ms Peace Mutuuza, the Gender & Culture state minister explained, “Nigerians have tailored their own, and we follow them in films and music.” “Let’s appreciate our culture and be proud of it”, she advised.
Entrance is sh5000 and sh3000 for adults and children respectively.
