Business was temporarily paralyzed when unidentified persons suspected to be belonging to the Jobless brotherhood on Wednesday morning dropped some two piglets along Kutch road in Jinja town.
In what appears to be a malicious attempt by some political opponent to one of the famous and outspoken opposition leader in Jinja Paul Mwiru, and coloured with blue, a color associated with the opposition Forum for Democratic Change.
The pigs also carried tags accusing the Jinja Municipality East Member of Parliament Paul Mwiru of failing to deliver his promises to the constituents.
The tags read: “In 2012 you promised voters a public library, to help children attain education, and fight for the general plight of Jinja but all in vain,” one of the tags read.
The readings on the tags also attacked the FDC legislator of not being a qualified lawyer. This is not the first time pigs are dropped in Jinja, in May this year, a group of youth aboard a super custom dropped two yellow-painted piglets with manila papers tagged on their necks bearing messages denouncing the NRM government for failure to address youth unemployment.
However, no sooner had the police started to pursue the matter than had onlookers took advantage of the donations saying they can look after them for income generation.
A young man in his late 20s whose identities were not revealed picked the two piglets and put them back in a box saying he could not let them either be taken by police or be knocked by running cars yet he can earn money out of them. Jinja District Police Commander Goefrey Kainamura said police was investigating the matter.
“We received the information but by the time my officer reached the scene, there wasn’t any traces but we suspect these were the jobless youth who need to be guided by their leaders to spend their timeproductively other than causing commotion in town” he said.
When contacted, Mwiru said he had nothing much to comment about the incident.
“There is time for everything and such childish games are expected in politics but for me I know that time for accountability is coming and I will account for what I did and what I failed to do” Mwiru said before hanging up.
There is however contradictory assumptions underlying the blue pigs with some commentators saying the act was done by FDC members to punish Mwiru for his allegiance to the former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi’s presidential bid against the party flag bearer Dr Kizza Besigye.
However, some FDC youth supporters who operate at the very spot where the piglets were dropped under their umbrella body, “Citizens concern Jinja led by a one Hussein Tenywa accused Mwiru’s main NRM challenger Nathan Igeme Nabeta for being the masterminding to weaken his support
Nabeta, who is also the chairman board of the national broadcaster Uganda Broadcasting Corporation and former Member of Parliament for the same area is the new NRM chairman for Jinja district and also main challenger for the NRM ticket to regain the parliamentary seat.
Nabeta could not be readily accessed but one of his henchmen Samuel Kawuta, the district councilor for Busede Sub County describes such claims as barbaric, unfound and malicious intended to drag his aspirant into childish politics.
“Hon Nabeta is politically mature than his real age and nobody should ever think and or drag him into such seek and hide games” Kawuta said.
