Former Prime Minister John Patrick Amama Mbabazi has vowed he will go ahead with his planned consultations in Eastern Uganda this week despite warnings by the Inspector General of Police General Kale Kayihura.
Speaking at his first news conference on Monday July 06, 2015, Mbabazi said no one will stop him from enjoying his right to assemble and associate so long as he operates under the law.
Quoting the Public Order Management law, Mbabazi noted that the Police have no mandate to stop his consultations and he is not ready to succumb to any form of threats by the Inspector General of police Gen. Kayihura.
Meanwhile Mbabazi indicated that his lawyers will soon be meeting with the Police and the Electoral Commission to further interpret the law on public gatherings for purposes of clarity.
On May 5, Mbabazi celebrated mass in Kaliro district of Busoga sub-region where he addressed thousands of Christians.
On July 9, Mbabazi has scheduled a ‘consultation meeting’ in Mbale town.
Meanwhile Mbabazi has scoffed at the idea of a sole candidate in NRM even though he endorsed the Kyankwanzi resolutions that passed president Yoweri Museveni as the NRM’s sole candidate.
