Busoga’s acting Kyabazinga David Kawunhe Wakoli has strengthened his fort by appointing into his cabinet a number of powerful shots he believes will steer Busoga out of the current turmoil.
In his letter dated July 12, Kawunhe announced that he had appointed the former State Minister of State for Fisheries Fred Mukisa from Bukholi chiefdom as the Kingdom Prime Minister (Katwikiro).
Kawunhe indicated that Mukisa’s appointment was based on his vast leadership skills and experience attained overtime having served in several national leadership positions.
Kawunhe said: “In consultation with some of the royal chiefs, I take this opportunity as the Acting Kyabazinga to appoint you as the new Prime Minister of Obwa Kyabazinga Bwa Busoga,”, the letter reads in parts.
Upon release of the letter, Kawunhe said that he was waiting for the response from the former minister upon taking up the headship of Kingdom business.
In an interview with this reporter, Mukisa expressed willingness to serve in the new position.
Mukisa has served as a secondary school teacher, Resident District Commissioner, Member of Parliament, Kingdom Minister, state minister and member of Uganda Land commission among others.
Mukisa will be deputized by Wilberforce Bukonko from Kigulu chiefdom who will also serve as the Minister for Culture /Kyabazinga affairs and Lubale Gideon from Bugabula chiefdom as second deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Lands.
Other ministers appointed include; Pastor Sam Mugote from Bugabula, who will hold the Agriculture and environment docket, Dr Elliot Munaaba from Bulamogi chiefdom who will hold the Health docket. Osman Ahmed from Bulamogi took the Trade, Transport and Tourism department. Alfred Okurut from Bugweri is the Finance Minister While Ishaka Magemeso is in charge of Security and Protocol.
The presidential private media aide Kirunda Farouk was appointed the kingdom spokesperson.
The advent of new blood into the the leadership of Busoga kingdom matters however leaves less optimism for Busoga enthusiasts considering that the two main factions fighting over the Kyabazingaship are far from resolving their differences.
Kawunhe, who is allied with Prince Gabula Nadiope – one of the contenders for Kyabazingaship, has taken steps in recent weeks to strengthen its positions including the appointment of the latest cabinet.
The group, which has the backing of Parliament Speaker Rebecca Kadaga, also recently inaugurated the Busoga Lukiiko – Parliament to embark on kingdom duties.
