The President of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), January 28, 2014 and will be co-performed by President Yoweri Museveni.
The new Jinja Bridge is located in one of the most important and strategic parts of the Northern Corridor, which extends from Kampala to the Port of Mombasa and is vital to Uganda’s logistics. Once completed, it will be the most symbolic and monumental cable-stay bridge structure spanning 525m – the only of its kind in East Africa.
Under this project, a new cable-stay bridge along with access roads will be built across the Nile River and we hope this will encourage economic activities not only in Uganda but also in neighboring countries, thereby promoting regional integration.
President Tanaka will, in the course of his trip, also visit a few of the other projects funded by JICA in Northern Uganda on 27th January, 2014. JICA’s support to Northern Uganda was developed to aid Internally Displaced Persons’ (IDPs) return and resettlement to their original communities through extending reconstruction assistance to the people of this area. After completion of the returning process for the most of the IDPs, JICA continued supporting community infrastructure development and strengthening local governance in line with the Peace, Recovery and Development Plan (PRDP) of the Government of Uganda.
Upgrading of Atiak-Nimule road project which ground breaking ceremony was successfully held in August 2013 by His Excellency President Museveni is one of his visit sites.
JICA is glad to be part of Uganda’s development agenda and is looking forward to a continued partnership with Uganda, as it takes-off to be a middle income country.
