Members of Parliament are still perplexed by the decision by the Jinja district land board to transfer a part of Jinja hospital to private individuals.
The vice chairperson of the Parliament Public Accounts Committee Paul Mwiru described the move as foolery on the part of the land committee to the extent that they issued land titles on land owned by the public.
But Mwiru noted, ” wondered Mwiru.
Mwiru’s comments came after complaints by the hospital director Dr Sophie Namasopo that one of the major challenges the hospital is facing encroachment on its land for which some cases are even in courts of law.
According to Namasopo, there are individuals claiming ownership of land housing the hospital staff quarters at the children’s ward and another one claiming to have lawfully acquired land that is adjacent to the Muslim cemetery. Both pieces are part of hospital land.
Basoga Nseete students’ association had proposed to solicit funds to erect a cancer ward on the land at the cemetery but according to Dr Namasopo, the project cannot kick-start since the land in question is under contention before court.
