The Uganda National Cultural Center (UNCC) aka the National Theater has partnered with the GEMS Cambridge Schools to promote culture and talent among school children in Uganda.
UNCC’s Executive Director Francis Peter Ojede said the partnership will seek to promote culture such as in performing arts, painting and music.
Ojede said: “We realized that the two organizations have a lot in common and that we can pursue a common agenda in order to popularize our culture.”
Ojede added that culture plays a pivotal role in employment creation. As a result, we decided that we sign a Memorandum of Understanding so that we benefit from each other.”
Ojede said the cooperation will involve developing a competition that brings different schools together. According to Ojede the MOU envisages discussing themes, plays and their time of presentation before they are produced.
Robert Musiitwa, UNCC publicist added that UNCC will provide technical support to GEMS by providing qualified arts trainers and adjudicators, in the event the international school develops an arts piece.
“We have also offered to provide space if they want to come and stage a play,” said Musiitwa.
The MOU, according to Musiitwa will enable the GEMS art students to be exposed to experienced visual artists such as painters, sculptors.
Musiitwa described the MOU with GEMS as one of the many activities UNCC is using to reach out to and develop talent among young people in Uganda.
