On Wednesday last week, Ugandan musicians, under their umbrella body, the Uganda Musicians’ Association, launched their offices at the National Theatre where their new leaders were also sworn in.  Today we have brought you the full committee that will serve a two year term.

President Sophie Gombya

Sophie takes over from Julius Kyazze, the CEO of Swangz Avenue. Sophie Gombya is a musician and social activist, married to fellow musician Sam Gombya.

Sophie went to Nakivubo Blue Primary School, Kawempe Muslim SS and later Kibibi SS. She holds a diploma in counselling and guidance. Sophie Gomba sings with a sharp soprano and performs with her husband. She has successful singles like “Spare tyre” about a woman with whom she is competing for the same man. It was written by her husband.

Ykee Benda; the Musicians’ ‘Ssekandi’

Wycliffe Tugume aka Ykee Benda is scooped the post of vice president in the association replacing Angella Kalule who held this post since 2017

Wycliff Tugume better known by his stage name Ykee Benda is a multi-award winning African singer, songwriter and producer from Uganda, his musical style is diverse and includes Afro beats, Pop, Dancehall, R&B, Reggae among others. He began his music career in 2015 and has quickly risen to fame

He holds a first class degree in Chemical Engineering which he attained from the University in Algeria. He has popular songs like Superman, Ssinga, Eva and many more.

Finance Boss-Rena Nalumansi

Rena Nalumansi was entrusted with a huge task of keeping the finances of the association. Knowing the attitudes of some musicians, it’s not clear how the young lady will manage the office.

Madam Secretary’-Phina Mugerwa

Phina Mugerwa popularly known as Phina Masanyalaze or Uganda’s Shakira succeeded Sylver Kyagulanyi, as the new secretary of the association.

Mugerwa started her music career in 2007 after completing her senior six. Radio presenter Kato Lubwama had announced on the radio that he was seeking dancers to join his Diamonds Ensemble Band.

She attended Namirembe kindergarten, Namirembe Infant School for her primary education, and St. Andrew Kaggwa College for her secondary education

She is famous for both her dancing and her singing. Her songs like Bampassudde and Gyobera have made her a household name in Uganda’s music industry

Gospel Lucus Lubyogo ‘Levixone’

Sam Lucus Lubyogo aka Levixone is a Ugandan gospel musician who represents all gospel artistes at the Uganda music association

He is better known by his stage name Levixone, and his famous song “Turn the Replay.”

Levixone attended St. Joseph Mapeera Primary School in Lusaze from P.1 to P.5, but he dropped out when his stepfather refused to pay for his education.

Levixone came across fields of life, a non-denominational Christian International Development organization that helped to pay for his primary and secondary school education.

Jamie Kasujja aka Jamie Culture: Chief whip
