Professor George Mondo Kagonyera has been appointed the new Chancellor of the Kampala University (KU) Council. The council is headed by Prof. Abid Sayed.

Kagonyera succeeds Prof. Edward Rugumayo Amooti, as the second chancellor since KU was established. “I am extremely happy to see that our newly-installed accepted our request when we approached him to come and join us; and we are going to work together as I assured my Chancellor that, ever since our existence, we have never had any student strikes. So, please you are in a safe place,” the Vice Chancellor Prof. Badru Kateregga Ssalongo Prior said while receiving Kagonyera.

Kampala University Council Chairman, Prof. Abid Sayed, also welcomed Kagonyera into the Capital’s chartered University. “We thank you, Mr. Chancellor, Sir, for accepting to work with us because not everybody understands this task. We want also to appreciate our out-going Chancellor, Prof. Edward Rugumayo,” Prof. Sayed added.

Kagonyera’s installation comes at the time KU is celebrating its 19 years of existence in the field of education. It was also conducting its 15th Graduation Ceremony in which 2,923 students attained their certificates, diplomas, degrees and Masters degrees in different fields. Among these, 1,935 were Ugandan students.

“In this 15th graduation, we have 24 First Class degrees, where Fredrick Sseguya, emerged as the best male graduand, and a Nabwire was the best female student.
