It will be a fan packed fest as Tunaweza in Conjuction with Makerere University and Inter-Aid Uganda will parade yet another Urban Refugee arts show at the National theatre in Kampala on Saturday .
Speaking to UNHCR’ representative Charlie Yaxley the Festival which is set to become annual is intended to integrate Refugees and the local People.
Inter- Aid Uganda together with the School of Liberal and Performing Arts, Makerere University through Dr Mangeni announced the Tunaweza Festival of Music and the Arts at Inter-Aid offices in Kampala in a two days show that will be held on 14th August 2016 at the Uganda National Cultural Centre Auditorium.
This festival is part of the activities following a MoU between Inter-Aid Makerere University School of Liberal and Performing arts to skill Refugee youth in the Performing Arts.
According to the Organizers the objective of the festival is to provide a forum to refugee artist and individuals to showcase share and celebrate their creative activities through performance and exhibitions. Specifically it seeks
- To foster integration of refugee artists with host communities through creative arts
- To provide space for refugee artists to market their creative skills and products
- To foster appreciation and respect of refugee communities as valuable to national development
It will feature Urban Refugee arts groups from The Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Sudan (Darfur) South Sudan and Rwanda and Ugandan youth Artists. The curtains come up at 10.am and will show, Music, Comedy, Dance, poetry, exhibitions and workshops. There will be performances for and by children. The entry fee is 3,000/= per Person
