After a long period of hustle, the “Ansanna” singer Martin Nkoyoyo aka Yoyo, finally came back to life in creative music/ event show he called “Yoyo 365 Dinner party.”
The show took place on Wednesday this week at the National Theatre after treating fans to a sumptuous dinner.
The UGX100, 000 per ticket price tag had looked threatening the moment it was posted. But the huge turn-up proved many skeptics wrong.
Yoyo said he staged the show to fund raise for under privileged children for his “Yoyo 365 music and me” foundation.
He said he started the foundation to help homeless children to acquire basic needs such as education. While supporting their education, Yoyo says he grooms the kids to get some dancing and music lessons.
The fans did not disappoint as the auditorium got filled by the time he stepped on stage. Many of the fans, it emerged were family, friends and several other loyal fans whom he had mobilized on a one on one basis.
As soon as Yoyo stepped on stage fans, went crazy as they sang to his sweet music. He belted songs like Najikonamu, Sinorita, Ansanna and Telephone.
While on stage Yoyo said singing is his passion ever since he was a little boy.
“I come from a musical background, maybe that is where the genes of music come from,” he said.
He acknowledged the fact that he was inspired by international artists like R. Kelly. So aside from his compositions, he gave fans a chance to reminisce about the 90s music by Mr. Kelly.
He received support from not-so-common artists like Leila Kayondo and Naava Grey who added more excitement to the show.
Tapping into family connections, Yoyo received support from Brother Erisa Nkoyoyo; the Managing Director of Stone Roofing’s who donated UGX1m towards Yoyo foundation. He however challenged him to show results in at least one year and not abuse people’s good will.

The singer promised to remain true to the cause, saying: “I want these kids to have a positive mind and stay in school and especially the young girls because they are always abused as they start out in this industry.”
