Woes of Kaluma the Fistula Champion

Kampala. Abubaker Kaluma a renowned fistula activist in Kampala is reportedly missing following reports that he was implicated in LGBT activism that saw him hide 25- year- old city Nurse Brenda Nansove , Kakooza and Ibrahim Kalungi who was wanted by police for giving medical aid to a group of wanted gay activist and never reported to police.
It is understood that Kaluuma  who was last year given a medal by local NGO Women at Work International (WAWI) for having stood  by his wife a fistula victim for seven years .
A member of Kaluuma’s Family who seek anonymity revealed that one family member noted that “Our family can no longer contain a person of Kaluuma’s character and fear seeing her recruiting other family members into Homosexuality”.
His wife Ms Suban revealed to this paper that her husband received a couple of threats from security and anonymous. “At first we thought it was a petty threat but later when he it intensified he went away but he has been supporting me through his friends “she adds
As the fight against Fistula intensifies, Local organization Women at Work (WAWI) under the stewardship of legendary Musician Ms Halima Namakula alias Maama Halima has together with Global Peace Foundation with support from UNFPA awarded over 8 men who have stood with their wives in the battle against Fistula last year.
The men whom Ms Namakula  and WAWI regard as fistula Champions where given medals at hotel Africana in Kampala as a gesture to encourage men to stand by their wives instead of a shaming them or neglecting them when the contract the disease.
