2014 is proving to be a remarkable year for educationist and founder of Kampala University Prof. Al-Hajj Badru Kateregga. The Sunrise has reliably learnt that Kateregga, is the second branch to be opened in the region after the one in Kitengela, Kenya.
The East African University Rwanda branch is set to be located on the outskirts of Rwanda’s capital Kigali.
Kampala University’s Public Relations officer Julius Ssekatawa told The Sunrise that the East African University Rwanda branch intends to provide affordable quality education to Rwanda majority especially to students who are unable to travel to Uganda.
“Many Rwandan students would like to come to Kampala University Uganda but they can’t afford to do so. We are choosing to extend our services to Rwanda,” Ssekatawa said.
The East African University of Rwanda that is already chattered and operational has over Two Hundred students from both Rwanda and Uganda. According to Ssekatawa, Kampala University with its obligation to provide cheap education in the region will soon be extended to several countries in the East African Region including Somalia.
In the same vein, Kampala University has finally managed to acquire a permanent home after it bought the properties holding the Ggaba-based headquarters disgraced former official Christopher Obbey.
Reliable sources say that the former public servant had mortgaged his property to ECO bank but failed to pay. When the bank decided to liquidate the property, it found Kateregga, who was the sitting tenant with ready money to pay for it.
According to Kampala University proprietor Kateregga, the land was successfully bought at undisclosed sum of money even though there were a few problems that they are finalizing.
“We now legally own both the land and premises and we are yet to make some developments” Professor Kateregga added.
