The President General of the Democratic Party (DP) Norbert Mao does not want to relinquish power that easily even after his health deteriorated recently forcing him to take leave of absence and rest as advised by his doctors.

Mao’s intention to hold on to the DP seat is show by the fact that this week he picked nomination forms through his agent Dr. Gerald Ssiranda, for the position of Party President. The election of the party’s top leadership is scheduled for July 23-26 in a delegates conference scheduled to take place at Katomi kingdom resort hotel, owned by their former member and Uganda’s former Vice President Prof. Gilbert Bukenya.

If Mao manages to recuperate fully, he will tussle it out with Buikwe South Member of Parliament, Dr. Lulume Bayega who picked nominations through his associate Paul Luyombya.

East African Member of Parliament, Fred Mukasa Mbidde is set to contest for the position of National Vice President.

Dr. Gerald Siranda UYD President has on the same note expressed interest to stand for the Vice Secretary General who picked forms today.

Entebbe Mayor, Vicent Kayanja aka Depo , picked nomination forms to stand for the position of Vice Secretary for Mobilization.

According to the set party roadmap, the picking of nomination forms exercise which has started today will end  June 26.

The forthcoming DP delegates conference is likely to test the party’s unity following several skirmishes in recent months that have been characterized by power struggles.
