Food is an important part of a man’s life and a highly treasured issue in African culture. Each African region has its own favorite dish and so does each man.
In fact, brown envelope meals, drinks or a burger and they are off to bed. A black man won’t put up with this. He wants a full five course meal on the table if he is to retire to bed comfortably.
African men don’t just like food, they love it. This love for food demands that girls should be trained to be good cooks if they are to be happy in marriage. A woman who can’t produce a fine meal on the table does not qualify to be a wife. Fine words and beauty don’t produce food and no man will put in a good word for you.
The fact that a rose smells better than a cabbage does not mean that it will make better soup as well. Young men who are preparing to marry are cautioned never to be blind folded by the beauty of the girls yet they can’t be good cooks. Actually being a wonderful cook is an essential pre-requisite for marriage, beauty comes later.
According to the ancient Egyptians, wine, women and food were believed to give gladness to the heart of a man. All the three should not be tampered with. If you watch your pot, your food will not burn. You’re even advised to know what’s being cooked in the Kitchen or else you might eat a forbidden food.
While some of us eat to live, the majority live to eat. The bitter truth is that our lives are not in the lap of the gods, but in the lap of our cooks. Now that the cook is more valuable than the god, we have got to be closer to the former. The grasshopper which is near its mother eats the best food.
If the prowl is for food all ears are on the ground. The only thing that can possibly kill your appetite is sickness. That’s why a patient who can swallow food with ease makes the nurse doubtful. When your stomach gauge starts reading empty you can’t wait anymore. A thief entered a grocery with a short gun and shouted, ‘Just give me chocolates and no body gets hurt’. The poor fellow preferred the chocolates. But water melons are better. A watermelon is a good fruit; you can eat, you drink and you even wash your face with it.
