Hundreds of people woke up very early this morning to cast their votes for presidential and parliamentary races.
But at most polling stations across Wakiso, voting did not start until about 11am in the morning.
The delays caused angry reactions at many polling stations as people wondered if the delays had been part of a deliberate plan to disenfranchise them.
At Kitende Primary Schoool, the vital voting logistics including ballot papers, bollot boxes had not arrived at the polling station by 11am. This resulted into very long of angry people who could barely withstand the hot sun.
One woman only identified as Ms. Sonko cursed why the Electoral Body had told them to come early to cast their votes if it was not ready to deliver the materials in time.
At Kanyaya, our reporter Musisi Lwanga witnessed people turning violent as they threw tree branches in the road to protest what they described as a deliberate plan to disenfranchise and discourage voters.
The Electoral Commission deputy spokesperson Paul Bukenya told The Sunrise that they had experienced delays in Kampala and Wakiso but that they were working hard to expedite the process of delivering voting materials. Similar reports of delays were heard from Masaka district.
The failure by the EC to deliver electoral materials especially in the central districts of Wakiso and Kampala, the home of the Electoral body has left many questions in the minds of voters with many asking the motive behind the delays. This is especially so since voting in far away places across Uganda had started earlier than at the headquarters in Kampala and Wakiso.
