President Yoweri Museveni has relaxed the ban on religious and social gatherings like burials, weddings by allowing up to 200 people to attend the events in the latest round of COVID-19 control measures.
The President also lefted the ban on Casinos, Gyms and open markets.
In his COVID-19 address from State Lodge Nakasero, Museveni said, Museveni also relaxed the ban on betting houses, Casinos and Gyms.
Museveni however maintained the 7pm to 5:30Am curfew, as well as the ban on Theatre and music concerts.
Museveni based the new softer measures are based on data showing a decline in COVID-19 cases.
Museveni said the daily average number of confirmed cases over the last one month has declined and stabilized at 124 cases countrywide, from an average of 1,445 cases at the peak of the second wave in June 2021.
On the highly anticipated issue of reopening of education institutions, the president announced that institutions of higher learning will reopen on November 1, 2021.
Museveni said however the reopening of primary and secondary schools will happen in January, 2022. At this point, the President said the government will have realized at least 6 million people vaccinated.
The president said the country now has 2,294,000 doses of vaccines available at the National Medical Stores (NMS) out the 11,978,840 million doses expected by end of December 2021.
