Two fuel tankers caught fire early this morning at Goli on Ugabda’s northern border post with the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) spokesperson Ian Rumanyika confirmed the incident but said their offices located nearby were not affected by the fire.
“At around 3:00am, EAT a fuel tanker Reg No. KCN019Q/ZF7830 conveying Diesel (fuel) to the Democratic Republic of Congo l, which arrived at Goli border post located 448 Kilometres north of Kampala caught fire, said Rumanyika
, the Assistant Commissioner, Public and Corporate Affairs at URA.
Rumanyika said that the cause of fire started with one tanker and spread to another tanker and a coaster that were parked nearby.
He said the cause of the fire was suspected to be friction of the rear tyres on one tanker.
“Unfortunately, the fire extended to another fuel tanker Reg No. 0887AA07/0888AA07 and a Coaster unit that were parked on the roadside nearby burning the two completely,” he said adding,
“The fire was immediately put out and all the trucks that were parked on the roadside were accorded temporary exit into Congo, hereby minimizing the damage and destruction it could have caused,”
Rumanyika said that on human causality or loss of any other property except for the two fuel tankers and the coaster mentioned above were registered.
The exact cause of the fire, he said is currently under investigation by the Uganda Police Force.
