President Yoweri Museveni has hailed religious institutions for starting income generating projects to support their activities and for embracing development.
Quoting Matthew 25:14-30 on the use of one’s talents and skills, the President urged Christians to work hard for prosperity through wealth creation projects.
The President was today speaking during a thanks giving service and fundraising ceremony at All Saints Church in Mbarara.
All Saints Church Mbarara is seeking to raise about Shs 3billion for the completion of the new Church building now under construction.
In a nostalgic moment, the President sat on a bench donated by his mother Esteeri Kokundeka to the Church before taking a moment of silence in her memory.
“I have come to contribute to the work started by my late mother. She contributed to a lot of churches that later turned into schools including Akatomi Nyarito in Ruhama, Mutombo, Kikoni, Katebe in Kashari, Nshwere and Rushere among others,” he said.
He pledged government contribution of Shs 400m and made cash contribution of 30m towards completion of the church.
The President said Africa is a well endowed continent with a lot of opportunities that have not been exploited.
“Uganda is a rich country with nutritious foods, lakes, mountains and pastures but lucks ‘salt’ in it. The NRM government has added salt in the food through infrastructure development, improved education and health sector etc that’s why you see development” he noted.
The area Member of Parliament Hon. Medard Bitekyerezo said that government has secured the money to put oxygen plants in all referral hospitals so that people access oxygen for free. He commended the President for the development programs in the district.
The Bishop of the Diocese of Ankole, Rt. Rev. Dr. Sheldon Mwesigwa thanked the President for following in his parents’ footsteps by supporting the church. He described the late Esteeri Kokundeka as one of the strong supporters of the Church.
