“When I think of where I come from, I dont let anybody take me back there, so I say when am on the streets I am a king, I don’t wanna be called a beast but rather be called a king.”

It being a culture of the Uganda National Cultural Center (UNCC) to explore, discover and preserve Ugandan Art and Culture, the second Annual Arts and Cultural Festival was a blast as many different cultures show-cased what they have.

This year’s festival was celebrated under the theme “Culture for Sustainable Tourism” and the edition was a new show as the Mumbai India dance group performed through out the occassion alongside other culures like the Basoga, Alur, Bamasaba and Baganda among others.

Many artistes graced the event like Sarah Ndagire, Ragga Dee, Mike Ouma, but more suprisingly Singer Cindy Sanyu aka the King her self performed at the Cheza dance fest stage in the auditorium.

Miss Curvy Nasasi Belinda and Miss tourism Phiona Bridget Kyeru were also present at the event as they appreciated the different dance groups that showcased there dance moves.

The dance groups were the 247, the Joker East Africa’s Got Talent participant and the new chapter dancers among many others.

Cindy advised the different ghetto dancers not to give up on their dreams just like she did, with this she narrated her journey with the Coca Cola Pop stars auditions where she first show-cased her dance talent when they came to her village in mbale.

” For me this is not a gig but this is a life time for me, , I am not here to make money but I am here to support people just like you.”

Cindy said that dance is what makes her who she is, that is why most of the times she adds dance in her music videos and she also encourages more people to come and support the helpless kids who choose to start their carrier in dance.

Other performances from cultural groups took place and exihibitions, the Gishu’s showed acts of how they circumsize in their place and also the different cultural songs and dances.

Minister of State for Gender, Labour and Social Development Peace Mutuuzo opened the event and also advised people to embrace their cultures and support the youths as they venture into different talents.

“Uganda is very god in terms of music and art, youths’ energy can be well utilised and it encourages us to benfit from each other.”
