The Royal Garden Tea Party, regularly held at Buckingham Palace in London, is attended by the British royalty and other distinguished people in the United Kingdom. The recent one was in May attended by Prince Charles of Wales and his wife, Camilla, and the Princess Royal Anna, his aunt.
An exception in this one was the presence of Stephen Buntu-Bwona’s, a Ugandan British naturalized citizen. This was his second time to be invited to the The first time was in 1983 when the-then Uganda High commissioner to Britain, Shafiq Arrain, recommended him to attend. At the time, he was the chairman of Uganda Students’ Union in the UK.
Now, he is a member of the Expert Witness Institute (EWI), specialised in forensic accountancy group in Britain. EWI regulates experts who give evidence in courts in England and Wales. He has written reports and given evidence in a number of cases including Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs Exercise in the High Court, apart from other lesser courts.
As a chartered Management Accountant with invaluable private, voluntary and public sector experience and extensive knowledge in financial reporting and accounting procedures, taxation, auditing, investigations, forensic accounting, fraud, corporate finance and insolvency, he also belongs to many professional bodies.
As a respectable member of the Uganda diaspora community, on several occasions, Buntu-Bwona has been tasked with giving speeches when Uganda dignitaries visit London. An example is when the Kyabazinga of Busoga visited London in 2016. That kind of attention has drawn him to involvement in discussions regarding land grabbing in Uganda. He has done research on this.
He and five Ugandan intellectuals have authored a book on titled, “Uganda: Land Issues Revisited – Redressing the Historical Injustices and Imbalances and Addressing the Contemporary Anomalies and Malpractices to Re-engineer the Future.” This book was reviewed last year in the Daily Monitor newspaper.
