Lectures at Makerere University are still on a standstill as the strike by students against the 15% cumulative tuition increment policy enters day three.

The police are still in running battles with students and teargas is all over Makerere University and the surrounding areas.

Meanwhile the University Management has come out with a communication regarding the situation.

Through their social media platforms, the administration said there were some students misleading others for sympathy votes in the forthcoming Guild elections.

“A group of MAK students has been leading mini demonstrations on campus  claiming they are protesting against non-existent fees increment. These are apparently strategizing and positioning themselves for the next Guild elections.

Management wishes to inform the public that there has been no increment in fees for any student at Makerere. Every student joins the university with a fees structure and continues with that fees structure until they complete,” the university administration said in a statement.

The management has also strongly warned individuals involved in the strike saying that hooliganism will not be tolerated at the university.
