Africa Institute for Strategic Animal Resource services and development(AFRISA) Makerere under the school of Veterinary has equip 73 students with AFRISA equips 73 with Modern Agriculture and Agribusiness
The students were awarded with certificates of completion at Makerere University Main Hall by the principal school of Veterinary studies DR. David Kabasa who is also the Acting Vice Chancellor
The program comprised of graduates and non-Graduates lasting for a period of 6-9 months respectively majoring in areas of Horticulture, Apiary, Diary keeping and Livestock Keeping among others in a modern Farming
According to Dr. Kabasa the program is targeting job creation, Healthier and wealthier communities where each individual will have something to show and promote their communities.
“This program is intended to equip people with skills and Knowledge such that they can create jobs for themselves and others with healthier and wealthier communities where every individual will prosper.” Said Kabasa
The head of the secretariat and Director Programs Dr. Michal Kansiime said the institute had 73 students whom they passed and y aimed at transforming their skills, Technology, innovations and community service through Academic community public private [partnerships (ACP3)
Project coordinator Isa Agaba who links parents and AFRISA said the project will continue and very soon a batch of new students will come in.
Agaba added “we shall also follow up our students and continue empowering and supporting them in the various businesses they will decide to establish “
Earnest Rugyendo a former student of Qualitative economics at Makerere University and A Banker said he has learnt a lot from the AFRISA program as he was able to gain hands on training in Agriculture and modern Farming
“I was able to get Hands on training in modern farming and I am to start up my own agribusiness as the knowledge acquired is like gold said” Rugyendo
Livingstone Bashisha a parent said he is grateful for AFRISA and advised the students to use the knowledge they have gained to develop themselves and their communities
