Uganda Cranes Skipper and Goalkeeper Dennis Masinde Onyango has been voted the best African goalkeeper by the Confederation of African Football.
Onyango was chosen as the only goalkeeper and the only African-based player in CAF All Stars team of 11 that features Liverpool’s duo Muhamad Salah and Sadio Mane.
Oyango was humble in his reaction to the biggest achievement ever received by a Ugandan footballer when he said: “If you believe it, you can do it.”
Onyango has received praise and congratulatory messages from Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) Moses Magogo who attended the star-studied awards event in Senegal’s Capital Dakar, along with Cranes Coach Desabre and FUFA CEO Edgar Watson.
The Africa All Stars team that was selected by CAF Technical and Development Committee,
CAF Media Experts, Legends, Coaches of the quarter-finalists of the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup, and Coaches & Captains of the 54 Member Associations includes;
Mohmaed Salah (Egypt), Denis Onyango (Uganda); Sadio Mane (Senegal) Serge Aurier (Ivory Coast), Medhi Benatia (Morocco), Eric Bailly (Ivory Coast), Kalidou Koulibaly (Senegal); Thomas Partey (Ghana), Naby Keita (Guinea), Riyad Mahrez (Algeria) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Gabon).
Mohammad Salah was voted CAF best footballer of the year for the second time.
Other awards were as follows;
Women’s player of the Year: Chrestinah Kgatlana (South Africa)
Youth player of the Year: Achraf Hakimi (Morocco)
Coach of the Year: Herve Renard (Morocco)
Women’s coach of the Year: Desiree Ellis (South Africa)
National team of the year: Mauritania
Women’s national team of the year: Nigeria
Goal of the Year: Chrestinah Kgatlana (South Africa)
