The ministry of health has signed a scholarship agreement with health students from different institutions under the Uganda reproductive maternal child health services improvement project which will benefit 184 students carried from last year and 536 students registered this year 2019
Dr. Diana Atwine the permanent secretary Ministry of health presided over the signing of the scholarship agreements with the students from different institutions such as Makerere University, Kyambogo University, Busitema, and Mbarara among others at the Ministry of Health headquarters in Wandegeya.
The 7.84 billion shillings will benefit 536 students registered this year and 184 of last year making a total of in the fields of Neonatal Midwifery child care reproductive health and biochemical engineering among others
Atwine urged students to keep the ethics and integrity of the health profession as they deal in human beings. “Keep the ethics and our integrity as health professions we deal with human beings not metals you must work with passion.
She also urged institutions to send student documents such as semester progress and invoices in time to avoid inconveniences in payments as she stated that the ministry wants to be transparent as possible.
John Sengendo the project coordinator said the project will see students retained in their different rural areas to serve as health professionals and this will help in addressing the shortage of health workers in rural and hard to reach areas .He also urged students to read hard and double their efforts as government is using taxpayer’s money to cater for their education.
