Social justice filmmaker and acclaimed activist arrested

Busulwa Gabriel Walta is a social justice filmmaker, grassroots anti-FGM activist, women’s rights defender, has been arrested on issues of his upcoming documentary about the Kasese massacre. According to eyewitnesses, a lot was destroyed laptops, computers, equipment, the suspect was blindfolded and driven away from the scene.
More about him he is a global renown activist and has used film as a tool of edutainment for some time, his case is like any other where journalists have been arrested for reasons that are not valid and taken to undisclosed locations.
His films have been exhibited both locally and globally with a focus on educating rural communities.
Currently, Walta is the Founding Executive Director of Abawala Trust Africa, Founding Member of the Anti-FGM movement in Africa, and chairs the boards of various grassroots organizations in Africa. He has facilitated workshops, conversations, panel discussions and dialogues in Uganda, East Africa, Nigeria, at the African Union and globally.
For nearly eight years he has educated and created awareness about ending FGM, child marriages and teenage pregnancy through various film mediums such as documentaries, short films, photography and participatory theatre.
Walta has grown into a strong social justice filmmaker, a passionate activist and a strong advocate against FGM and child marriages in Africa and is now gaining an appreciation for his work globally.
He has traveled to many countries in Africa talking about FGM, child marriages, women equality, teenage pregnancy, and girls’ education while creating multiple groundbreaking campaigns.
