The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA)’s appreciation week has started today at Kololo Airstrip with the theme: “Strong Together.”
Through this event, URA intends to sensitise the public on how money from taxes is spent as well as appreciate taxpayers. All government agencies are exhibiting their works and by early morning many people had lined up to receive free medical services, legal services, TIN registration, land title verifications and National ID registration.
Those wishing to register for the National ID are expected to report with a letter from their LC1 Chairperson with details including parents’ names, tribe, and whether they are dead or alive.
Those in need of card replacement are expected to report with a police letter and UGX 52000. The fifty thousand is for a new card and balance is a bank charge.
With the excise going on, there are some people who feel the communication was not effective.
“I wish I had known about the fifty thousand shillings for before. I have wasted my time to come here because I don’t have that money with me now,” said Maria Nantume, a resident of Kireka, Wakiso district.
Michael Ssuubi who had come to register for the first time said he was disappointed with the excise because the procedure did not seem any different from everyday bureaucracies.
“I expected to get my ID within these three days but the way I see things, I don’t think it will be possible. Now I have to fill this form and take it to the division. It is not favourable at all”
