English F.A champions Chelsea FC are set to announce the departure of their manager Antonio Conte in preparation for his replacement and fellow Italian and former Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri.

UK media indicates that the club hasn’t officially made the sacking public but that it has agreed a compensation deal for the ex—Napoli manager.

Also tweets by current and former Chelsea players indicate that the news might have been broken to the inner circle before being made public. Conte returned for pre-season training this week.

Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas took to Twitter to thank Conte and wished him “luck for the future”.

“Thank you Mister for another Premier League title and FA Cup. It wasn’t easy for me to convince you in the beginning but in the end I hope I did you proud! Good luck for the future.” Fabregas wrote.

Sarri will be Chelsea’s ninth manager since Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich bought the club in 2003.

During three years with Napoli, Sarri has not won a major honour but has guided the club to the top three behind Juventus in 2017-18. The former Empoli manager was named Serie A Coach of the Year in 2016-17.
