Critics of Fufa are blaming the Uganda Cranes Coach Micho, combined well with Brian Majwega but was caught out of position on several occasions.
Savio Kabugo 75%: He was very solid in defence and made a number of clearances for the team as well as commanding his teammates well, but was fond of over moving forward which cost his team against morocco and against Burkina Faso.
Richard Kasagga 55%: He was also solid defensively communicating well with his teammates and won most of the aerial battles for the team but he failed in his marking duties.
Ivan Ntege 60%: His high work rate, commitment, and energy were key in securing him a number in every game the Cranes played. He shielded the Cranes defence and blocked most of the passes of the opposition but being a short player he lost most aerial battles.
Hassan Wasswa 65%: He shielded the Cranes Defence well and directed the style of play for his teammates well and I believe his removal was the main reason why the Cranes conceded two late goals from Morocco. He failed to coordinate with Ivan Ntege on who was holding midfielder as they were playing number one at the same time, also he failed to create scoring opportunities for lead striker Ssentamu.
Vincent Kayizzi 40% He failed to use his maturity to lead the young stars, he failed to coordinate with Julius Ntambi, he failed to help his team in the attacking role, missed Uganda’s best scoring opportunity against Morocco in the first half which the Moroccan defender cleared off the line.
Yunus Ssentamu 80%: The young star is ranked among the top scorers of the tournament and he scored three goals for his team and was promising to score more but lacked ball supply. Unfortunately he was also at times selfish with the ball which was unprofessional.
Brian Majwega 75%: He played one of his best games in life in this tournament, his pace was involved in most of Uganda’s attacks and delivered the majority of the crosses the Cranes had but was too attack minded and never helped Isaac Muleme and the team defensively
Francis Olaki 55%: He started one game against Zimbabwe and replaced Hassan Wasswa against Morocco and added pace to the attack as well as creating a number of scoring opportunities including the goal scored against Burkina Faso. But he lacked the scoring eye, he has in the league.
Said Kyeyune 50%: Played one game as he replaced Kayizzi against Morocco. Added his high class of passing and creativity in the Uganda centre mid field but because he got in late he yielded nothing for his team.
Ugandans dominate Mapinduzi cup
A wise writer once said that to fail to prepare is to prepare to fail. That seemed to be the cardinal sin as most competing teams from Kenya, Tanzania, and Zanzibar looked poorly prepared and facilitated for the recently ended Mapinduzi Sports Tournament. Uganda dominated while looking the most organized and prepared team in the bunch. The Sunrise’s sports analyst Lwesabula Baker shows you how it all happened.
The two-week Mapinduzi Sports Tournament at Amaan stadium concluded recently with Kampala Capital City Authority FC (KCCA) of Uganda lifting the soccer competitions title.
KCCA was the final of four Ugandan sports clubs to win the title in the tournament, after defeating Tanzania’s Sports Club Simba 1: 0 in the final thanks to Harman wasswa goal in the 20th minute of the 1st half. KCCA, which went unbeaten throughout the tournament, defeated Azam FC of Tanzania by 3: 2 on goals from defender Ibrahim Kizza, Striker Tonny Odur and William Wadri. SC Simba Defeated Uganda’s URA 2-– 0 and was able to bag themselves with U 23 million shillings the equivalent of 15 million Tanzanian shillings. In the same category Uganda’s Tax collectors Uganda Revenue Authority FC (URA) managed to reach semi final as well as having the top scorer of the tournament Owen Kasule with 4 goals.
In netball the She Cranes were the first team to give the Pearl of Africa a trophy after winning all their matches against the hosts Zanzibar, a walk over from Kenya after 5 players got injured while playing, and against Tanzania by 52 : 39 nets. Uganda also had its skipper Peace Proscovia being appointed the best shooter of the tournament after she netted over 60 goals.
Meanwhile Uganda also claimed victory in basketball category after defeating Kenya miserably by 60: 36 nets on the last day and later added that of handball as well which is the first trophy for Uganda in the regional championship also after defeating Zanzibar by 38:22 goals. In all categories all teams in the groups lost to those of Uganda.
