The Wife of former Buyende District Police Commander Muhammad Kirumira says she was attacked by men who were driving in a saloon car with private number plates yesterday Morning at Busega as she went to Railway Police station to find out the whereabouts of her husband.
Mariam Kirumira said men who were traveling in the car pulled her clothes and almost knocked her as she was moving on a boda boda in the morning of Yesterday morning a day after Kirumira was taken to Nalufenya.
Police Spokesperson Emillian Kayima confirmed Kirumira’s transfer to Nalufenya, and warned the family to ‘keep calm’. This followed calls by Kirumira’s father Abubakar Kawoya, family and fellow residents at Bulenga to appeal to President Museveni to release their son.
Kirumira surprised many when he came out on Wednesday with ‘awkward’ remarks that he had resigned from the Police force, shortly after being charged by the Police Tribunal in Naggulu or bribery, torture among other cases.
Judging by the trail of human rights violations at Nalufenya and several other police posts that have gone unpunished in recent years, Kirumira’s outbursts sounded naïve and many would say he invited his troubles.
Hardly a year has passed since the country got shocking pictures from Nalufenya of the torture of the Town Council of Kamwenge Geoffrey Byamukama on allegations of supporting rebel activity. And perhaps more shockingly, no one in the Police leadership has been tried.
