Many people, who have done or attended wedding functions, have heard Diplock Ssegawa’s legendary song; Sooka Omunoonye. It is occasionally played at the time when the bride is told to look for her bridegroom among st the congregation.
Speaking to The Sunrise, Segawa said the concert is to celebrated Sooka Omunoonye , which people have enjoyed since it was written in 1982.
The concert slated for January 30th at the National Theatre will feature the music legend celebrating the milestone of Sooka with his fans. Ssegawa will perform with his musicians’ ensemble which will be backed up by musicians from Afrigo Band
Artistes like Faith Kabasindi and Sylivia Babirye Angella Namaganda, among others, who owe their success in the music industry to Ssagawa, say that it will be a great pleasure for them to share the stage with him during the Sooka Omunoonye at 35 Concert.
Ssegawa, a musical legend, not only for his songs and the artistes who have come through his hands, but also as a man who did the long-running radio jingle for Statewide Insurance Company which was recorded in Nairobi in 1981. The jingle is still running.
Ssegawa is highly regarded because of his remarkable contribution in the music industry. He has fathered many prominate artists like, Joanita Kawalya, during 1983 before she joined Afrigo Band in 1989.
He has also written several songs for different musicians, and school anthems, like that of Victoria University, Gayaza Junior School and others. He has also written educative and informative adverts and songs for the Government on population census and elections, among others.
Tickets for the show will range from UGX 50,000 to UGX 100,000. The money will go to charity for the non-governmental organization, the National Association of Parents with Deaf Children.
This is partly in honour of Segawa’s daughter. “My first born, Flavia Nantayiro, is deaf and I have lived to see how this orphanage supported her,” Segawa said. “I will give some of the money to it in gratitude from to that organization.”
This event is to be sponsored by centenary bank, Victoria University and some of his fans, who love and appreciate the talented Ssegawa. He believes that his show will be a heart-touching show because of his songs that carry a lot of meaningful information to the public. It will be under the slogan: “You Have Seen the Rest, Come and See the Difference”.
