The Nebbi Court officials are crying foul after thieves broke into their offices and stole properties worth millions of shilling. It is reported that last Sunday night, the thieves broke into the court premises and took off with items like; computers, power stabilizers and kitchen ware.
The thieves also entered the Registry and destroyed files, and later abandoned them outside the gate while others went missing.
According to the Court Administrator, Charles Okethi, the thieves were cowards whose intention was to destroy evidence.
The OC CID Nebbi Police, Julian Asaasaira, said investigations were on-going and so far no arrest has been made.
Meanwhile, a Senior Four student identified as Julius Jachan, of Progressive Secondary School in Nebbi Municipality, who has been on remand in prison for two months, was allowed to sit for his s.4 exams.
Jachan was arrested and remanded on allegations of defiling a 16 year- old girl of Excel College in Pakwach District, (names withheld).
Jachan, 18 of Jupanyondho village in Paidha Town Council in September almost missed this year’s final exams as he was being detained on defilement charges. He was released on bail last week on two million, not cash, in time to sit the exams.
Jachan, who was first held in Paidha Government Prison, was transferred to Nebbi due to lack of commitment by the Police in Paidha to prosecute the case. He is to appear again in Court in November 2017, when his case comes up for mention.
Chief Magistrate Jeneva Anatukunda, said it was a simple case of defilement as both actors were under-age. Still their crime is contrary to Section 129 of the Penal Code Act. She cautioned the suspect on acts that can be detrimental to his future because a defilement case attracts a penalty of life imprisonment.
When contacted at the school, Jachan denied the charges saying, the alleged victim (name withheld) has been his long-time girl-friend.
