Police in Jinja has mounted a man hunt for one David Lwiigo Igulu alias Richard Lugwewo a former guard of the late Kyabazinga in connection with trespass, malicious damage, illegal possession of army fatigue and fraud.
Lwiigo is alleged to have commanded a gang of bodied men who demolished a house belonging to a one widow Mrs Mary Nume along Katende road in Bugembe town council claiming ownership of the land.
However when police led by the officer in Charge Jinja Central Police Station Felix Mugizi trailed Lwiigo at his Katende west village in Bugembe town council over the weekend, the suspect escaped into thin air.
This prompted cops to search his house where they recovered three army uniforms, eight army caps, an electric meter box and wires.
Police working on a tip off by the Presidential advisor on poverty alleviation in Busoga sub region Maureen Kyalya Waluube also recovered headed papers of Obwa Kyabazinga Busoga, four stamps of Busoga Kingdom offices including one of the Kyabazinga, the prime minister and hereditary chief of Luuka and land registration forms among others.
Lwiigo is a former security officer under the Kyabazinga royal guards who deserted in 2010 and is suspected to have been part of the racket of people making forgeries and illegal dealings in Busoga Kingdom.
Abdullatiff Kiranda, the Kingdom permanent secretary said that in 2011, the same Lwiigo alias Lugwewo was arrested by police after being caught red handed by the royal guards attempting to break into the Kyabazinga office.
“His arrest will be of great importance to the kingdom because he will help in listing his fellow fraudsters behind disunity and destabilization of the institution” Kiranda who rushed to the scene said.
He added that Lugwewo had also on a number of occasions forged letters allegedly signed by Prince Tabingwa of Luuka delegating him by powerof attorney.
Kyalya Waluube said it was her responsibility to ensure sanity at the kingdom headquarters if she is to succeed in her duty of coordinating programmes for eradicating poverty in Busoga.
“I am determined to dealing with such errant people who are out to frustrate all plans of restoring the glory of Busoga kingdom because of their selfish personal gains and interests and whoever has been parting with him should surrender or retreat before he or she is netted,” Kyalya added.
This comes at a time when property belonging to the kingdom especially land and buildings have either been illegally acquired or sold during the five years of no substantive leader at the throne.
