Police have on Saturday evening arrested state minister for Labour Hebert Kabafunzaki over allegations of soliciting a Shs30m bribe.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Emilian Kayima, Kabafunzaki was arrested together with Brian Mugabo, a clearing agent over alleged solicitation of a bribe from Aya Group chairman and managing director, Mohammed Aya.

“We have arrested him [Hebert Kabafunzaki] over soliciting a bribe from the proprietor of Aya Group,” Kayima said in a brief statement released to different media houses.

On Thursday Kabafunzaki, had visited Hilton Hotel in Kampala, a subsidiary of the Aya Group claiming that a certain woman had petitioned his office over allegations of sexual harassment.

In a brief message Mohammed Aya said he had briefed President Museveni about the matter who gave him a go ahead to play along as police organised to arrest Kabafunzaki.

“I briefed President Museveni about [the] minister soliciting a bribe. He gave me a go ahead to play along to have Kabafunzaki arrested,” he said.

Police is yet to release further details about the arrest, however, the Force confirmed they are still investigating the matter pending further action.

Kabafunzaki, whose ministry is also in charge of Employment and Industrial Relations, is a member of NRM representing Rukiga County.
