it becomes difficult to eliminate it. It is seen as the girl’s availability for marriage.
FGM is a procedure where the female genitals are deliberately cut, injured or changed, but where there’s no medical reason for this to be done. It is also known as “female circumcision” or “cutting”, and by other terms such as sunna, gudniin, halalays, tahur, megrez and khitan, among others.
Film Maker, Gabriel Walter Busulwa, condemns this belief saying that it exposes underage girls to diseases, psychological torture and other birth-related complications
As an independent film maker and humanitarian advocate against child marriages, female circumcision and teenage pregnancy, Busulwa focuses on stories about women empowerment and equality. He has worked with children in different societies and communities around Africa from Butaleja, Nebbi, Amudat, in Uganda; Kenya, Sierra Leone, Madagascar, Botswana, South Sudan, among others.
For nearly six years Busulwa worked down on the grassroots women and children, on a lot of issues affecting women in an Online. His show dubbed, The Girl Talk Show, specifically looks at problems affecting women and children.
At a tender age, Busulwa reached out to thousands of women and children across the African continent. He explained that, with various individuals and groups attempting to re-write to history of humanity, everyone is a stake-holder, including artistes and leaders. “Young people have their part to play in the fight against FGM, too. And we must empower them to come up with their own suggestions and ideas. Our role is to support them, so we ensure a positive change is made for our girls, especially though art and outreaches,” Busulwa added.
Busuulwa has also produced a film against early child-hood called Akello, a short film that has created an impact before its mainstream showcase, its 18 minutes with a subject based on stories of teenage pregnancy in africa it’s a story of a 14-year-old who is being influenced a friend peer to date an older man who made her pregnant and later her mother sends her away from home.

This year, Busulwa represented Uganda at the African Union Summit Week at the Art for Peace Forum in Ethiopia, Addis Ababa, where he screened a film, Akello, which is about teenage pregnancy in Africa.
The film has turned into an FGM campaign, and will be screened in Nigeria this year. It is also scheduled to be shown in Liberia, Sierra Leone and all over West Africa.
Busulwa was selected to be the Goodwill Ambassador of African Girls Trust, an international organization that works with girls in Africa and its Diaspora. He represents many grassroots organizations on the boards and also advised governments and consults on child and women rights.
